Implant Retained Dentures
Implant-Retained Dentures: A Secure, Comfortable Smile Solution
If you're struggling with loose or uncomfortable dentures, implant-retained dentures could be the ideal solution for restoring your confidence, comfort, and ability to eat and speak naturally.
What Are Implant-Retained Dentures?
Implant-retained dentures are a type of overdenture that is securely attached to dental implants — small titanium posts surgically placed into your jawbone. Unlike traditional dentures, which simply rest on the gums, implant-retained dentures are anchored in place, offering greater stability, function, and comfort.
These dentures "snap" onto the implants, so they won’t slip or move around when you're talking, laughing, or eating.
Why Choose Implant-Retained Dentures?
Improved Stability: No more slipping or clicking while talking or eating
Better Chewing Ability: Enjoy more foods, including tougher or crunchy items
Bone Preservation: Implants help stimulate the jawbone and prevent bone loss
Natural Look & Feel: Custom-made to match your facial features and smile
Improved Confidence: Speak, laugh, and smile with ease
How Do Implant-Retained Dentures Work?
Consultation & Planning
Your dentist will examine your mouth, take X-rays or 3D scans, and discuss your goals. Together, you'll decide on the best treatment plan.
Implant Placement
One or more dental implants (usually 2–6 per arch) are surgically placed in the jawbone. These act as sturdy anchors for your denture.
Healing Period
Over t he next few months, the implants bond with your bone in a process called osseointegration, creating a solid foundation.
Denture Attachment
Once healed, your custom-made denture is fitted and securely attached to the implants using special connectors. It can be removable or fixed, depending on your needs.
Types of Implant-Retained Dentures
Removable (Snap-On) Dentures
These dentures clip onto the implants and can be taken out for cleaning.
Fixed (Permanent) Dentures:
These are securely screwed or cemented in place and can only be removed by your dentist.
Am I a Candidate for Implant-Retained Dentures?
You may be a good candidate if you:
Are missing all or most of your teeth
Are unhappy with loose or painful traditional dentures
Have healthy gums and enough jawbone for implant placement (bone grafting is sometimes an option if needed)
Are a non-smoker or willing to stop smoking during the healing process
Are in good overall health
